The Sub-sea Float hovers at 1000 meters in depth. Made out of Syntactic foam by Flotation Technologies, it is designed to hold the lower riser afloat and act as a weak link. If the steel armored cable or OceanNet Buoy is caught by a large ship, the weak link will allow the buoy to disconnect at the Sub-sea float gracefully, preventing movement of the Sub-sea Junction box and preserving the fragile state of the ocean floor. With wet-mateable riser connections, the cable can be reattached with assistance from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
