#41104 RE: brainlessone #41101

Many nations and also the United Nations still do not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. At the time of Israel's formation, Jordan occupied Jerusalem. After Israel conquered Jerusalem, it made it it's capital. Later it annexed the Arab portion of the city through another conquest.
The U.S. mindful of the controversy, has thus far not moved it's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though Bush has said he will do so.
This time I line up with the Bush bashers. I see no reason to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Indeed, I see little reason for optimism for peace in the region because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I think it was wrong to take Palestinian lands to create a Jewish homeland. However, Israel has existed since 1948 and I don't know what a just solution is. I'm also troubled by the exclusivity of Israel. While the U.S. is an inclusive society, seemingly hell bent on finding new ways to become even more inclusive, Israel is a nation for members of one religion, and one religion only. At the moment I cannot think of any nation that we have supported that officially excludes members of other races or creeds. Refer to the following link for an explanation of Israel's citizenship rules:
