That's not quite correct. RSUs work the same way as options, except the strike price is essentially zero (including the fact that the IRS will tax you when your RSUs are vested!). There are also cases where a portion of the RSUs granted by Intel will not strike, and consequently they will expire worthless. An example would be an employee who leaves the company before the stock units are vested.
