LaoTsu, thanks. I think "scotch" may be onto something there. It makes sense to start out with a BANG, as long as they do it right! I like the idea of starting small too and growing, but if they can start BIG, I wouldn't be too upset! :) It would really put them in the leadership position and make their competitors squirm...especially if none of them are yet able to produce a CSS-enabled DVD! Let's keep our fingers crossed...
As for proving it can work to potential partners, I thought that's what the demonstration at CES was for..
Sounds to me like the CEO is implying more than a deal being discussed or in progress or being worked on in this reply from him on March 10 at agoracom.com. Sounds more to me like the project is in the implementation-set up phase, though it is still pretty vague--for which the CEO provides an explanation:
"Is Protocall working with a national retailer on a deployment of its TitleMatch DVD on-demand service?
RESPONSE: Yes, we have been working on a project with a major retailer for close to a year now and are contractually restricted from disclosing the retailer’s name and other specifics until the service becomes available to their consumers. As reported in the news media and on some websites, timing for deployment was targeted for the first quarter of 2008, however because of the overall size and scope of the project, certain integration processes have taken slightly longer to complete than originally planned. We believe the project is close to being ready, but the retailer will determine the exact launch date and we are actively working to make that happen as soon as possible. "
