Thanks for the pointer. Note that the KG Sales mgr or whatever he is makes a reference to something similar to what I questioned - he questioned IMS's insight into something other than retail sales (and notes that similar numbers reported during their last launch screwed their own numbers).
When I look up IMS data they have lots on retail sales - and no wonder since I would expect most of that to come through the big distributors warehouse (so easy to track). But do hospital sales come through the same system? ?
I know how semiconductor sales work - spot market vs direct orders. Spot market is easy to track, and gives some indication of direct market (because the manufacturer(s) always lets the spot market dry up before impacting their contractual commitments), but it is an indirect indication. Does anyone know how drug sales work - if a hospital signs a contract do they continue to get product through a distributor? If so, how does the hospital get its volume discount? Does it show up on the distributors externally viewable warehouse inventory or not (since it would be spoken for already).
