Demand for the rest of the year depends on just how big a disaster Nocona turns out to be. For Q4 server cpu units, I'd say low: 250K, high 750K. (Out of a total x86 server cpu market of 2 to 2.5M parts / Q.)
On the "Xeon MP" under $1000... let's see:

Re: competitive frequencies. I don't see any Opteron competition from Intel yet. Even 32bit Xeons don't really measure up to 2GHz Opterons, let alone 2.4 GHz. And look at 2P and 4P performance. Intel doesn't even come close.
