Beats me. In the unlikely event that I should ever become Prez, there'd be no religious figures invited to the White House, except perhaps for decorous ecumenical events.
Because it is the power they wield and that was common for the times. I would hope to think we have moved beyond that by now but it still exists... anti-semitism is very wrong and in my book anti American is just as wrong... Any Hate is wrong.
