Zeev, ""It took me sometime to agree with Sharon decision to target a blind wheelchair bound old Yassin. But after serious deliberations, I have come to the conclusion that Sharon was not only right, he did the morally right thing.""

I agree, but I would much rather have seen Chinese soldiers hauling Yassin off to trial at the Hague instead of Israelis killing him.

Seriously, is there much evidence after over 50 years that this strategy works?

zeev it has always been of interest to me that the UN literally simply wrung their hands, as did Truman, during the months leading up to the 48 war, apparently simply waiting to see who would win the planned war, rather than try to impose the UN sanctioned partition.

Only when it was clear that the 6 arab armies were being defeated did the UN try to arrange a ceasefire.

And even then the UN did not "impose" peace treaties which would have led to the usual post war necessities of conflict resolution and refugee exchange and nation state definition.

Instead the UN choose to take a route to perpetute the violence with only cease fires, and specifically chose to classify "palestinian" refugees differently than all other war refugees, and support this violent status quo.

So it appears to me that the UN is a peace destroying institution, or perhaps a conflict prolonging?, simmering? institution, despite its claims to the contrary
