SIMG owns HDMI like rambus. Not right at all. SIMG owns the IP which was developed under the auspices of the industry HDMI working group, but it is licensed out to all comers with SIMG collecting 4 cents a box royalty. Doesn't sound like rambus at all to me. The trend in semis is for free and open standards, part of the price simg had to pay to have HDMI adopted was a very modest royalty and open licensing. I own simg and it could be a good play. SIMG has a relatively high share count and their first foray into display resulted in them being stomped by gnss and pxlw. They could do all right in SATA storage and digital TV but they have a lot of competition and no way will they own those spaces unless their execution improves.
Tobin Smith has been pumping this one. From what I can see of the guy, he never lets facts get in the way of a pump.
