Re Quiz #2;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Sorry Flo but you will not be receiving a medical license from the board as your answer is incorrect and I will not be receiving a teaching certificate because of my lousy spelling.
It is erroneously thought by most people and physicians that severe hemophiliacs do not form clots. This is also writtin in many places. Hemophiliacs do form clots. Hemophiliacs lack factor VIII which is part of the Intrinsic coagulation system and therefore do not form clots intavascularly. There is (as I'm sure Dew will tell you) another coagulation cascade called the Extrinsic system operating in the soft tissues which is triggered by tissue thromboplastin and bypasses the intrinsic factors X, IX, VIII, etc. The extrinsic system is uneffected in Hemophilia and allows clotting. The problem in hemostasis for hemophiliacs is the clots do not form intravascular and therefore are not very effective. ................My reason for bringing this and it possible importance in Re to Atryn and DIC will developed in another thread.....
