If you look back I allso stated that IMHO itanic would be relegated to a niche market. Thats exactly where it's headed. In my opinion intel will never recoupe it's R & D. I'm sure the intel investors will, at some point, wake up to that fact.

There's a huge disconnect between the cost of developing (and continuing to develop) the Itanium, just for a niche market.
And Opteron (and it's successors) will continue to be developed into this market. It is essentially one chip (a coherency-bounding HTT switch) away from taking over.
Quad Opterons in a blade? 52 blades in one rack? Oofah!
Jules, that is true, I am not the only one who predicted that Itanium would be a niche product & have a hard time justifying its development costs. I think we were in the minority!
