Well, that's a Matt call. I'm still curious, though. Can you be more specific? By PM, if you prefer?

I try not to influence Matt very much because, frankly, I think he does the Admin thing extremely well. I absolutely do NOT over-ride him, but I do offer my opinions when I feel I should.

That said, I've always said (and wouldn't be surprised if Matt feels the same way) that the Admin role isn't really about "punishment". It's about getting people to comply with the site's rules now and in the future.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that statement was the quote of mine that's been printed in the largest font. Was in a WSJ article about me a long time ago. Appropriately so. I think it's one of the most important things for an Admin to understand.

So, in my opinion, if someone is spamming, it's not "punishment" I'd look for. If I could get them to quit spamming, then I've done my job.

Are you saying you've reported a spammer (and they really were "spamming") and they continue to do so to this day?

The issue you are talking about has been resolved. A while ago. I took it up with all the boards he "spams" and the board moderators didn't have a problem with it. So, that's peachy with me.

I believe in a community of very different communities. One might operate totally different from its neighbor. Not all the boards on this site go by the same rulebook. Some evolve into their own commuities and thrive with their own culture. So I let that roll. As long as a nudist or Satanic colony isn't setting up shop here, I'm a pretty flexible dood.

Now if he were posting that to public stock boards (my playground), he'd be spending a longtime sweeping the floors of my jail. Because, personally, I don't like it. But, the stock boards he frequents apparently do.
