If I understood correctly it’s a repair job for a customer where the spokes, out from the inner hub have fatigued and were cracking. The repair consisted of welding a nearly full size, one piece doubler overlay. It was positioned diagonally off-set at the hub and tapered flush at the outer extremities. I believe its called truss.

Notice the thickness of the steel at the spoke area, now consider that it was fatiguing and began to crack. The loads are tremendous on these machines = expensive. I dable in some metal fabrication and Mechanical Engineering at my day job and IMO this spool will leave DDI better than when it was new OEM.

I need to add also, Ron mentioned in an unsolicited manner what we all suspected that they prefer to PR after the fact!
