"When does a parent stop being a parent?" Never, but that does not mean the parent(s) don't allow the adult child to make his/her own decisions...and learn to live with those decisions. We have a president who seemingly never learned to take responsibility for himself and was allowed to behave child-like, even in adulthood - consequently, the country has a president who never learned to take responsibility and at 60yrs old STILL blames others for his mistakes.
Parents advise and sometimes argue with their adult child over a major decision but unless it's illegal, a parent owes it to their child to respect them enough and allow their child to eventually "fly" on their own...afterall, isn't that what most parents work towards?
I totally agree, when a parent loses a son/daughter in a useless war they probably never find peace within, and may always wonder why they could not have talked that child out of signing up.
You (rightfully) think having a young child is challenging/taxing? Just wait!
