I like the shop vac idea. Never thought of that one. My dad's house in MA is over 250 years old. I've installed bathrooms and sinks where there never was any.
The center beams in the basement are 12 inches square and hard as a rock. In some places I've had to run pipe around them because it was futile drilling through them.
