Intel was going to have to do something once they decided to move Dothan to the desktop. THey would have wound up with something like this regardless of what AMD has or will do.
I'd prefer it if AMD and Intel collaborated on something like TPI, but that isn't going to happen...
Frankly, wbmw, I think that Intel's going to the model number is a victory for AMD's TPI, and they never had to come up with an actual metric. Now folks will have to look at actual performance to make their decisions; and they'll be interested in knowing how it performs with their software, not just some benchmark. Hardware review sites are going to be busy!
