I suppose so, with one notable exception.
Nobody in jail believes they're going to get rich here. They're here involuntarily as misfits and malcontents. The gadflies provide a service to Ihub by making the stay here as unpleasant as possible and, occasionally, they actually provide assistance to the newbies and illiterate.
Those WAVX people you're talking about, however misguided, believe they're going to hit the jackpot. The only thing worse than the painfully slow realization that it isn't true is people like you saying "I told you so".
You're right, it's meanness in it's most base form. Nothing to be proud of.
