"Mlsoft.......I'd like to hear your take on the ice cores drilled in the antarctic. Are you familiar with them? They've drilled to 420,000yrs ago. In addition, coal.....diamonds too if you don't mind. How were they formed?
Why does the Earth look old when it isn't?
First, please remember that God is omnipotent. He can do anything He wants to do in whatever manner He wants to do it. We often hear the quote from Scripture "With God, nothing is impossible". That is true, but it goes further than that -- With God, nothing is even slightly difficult.
Scripture does not tell us how God went about creation, and that is not an oversight on the part of God. Had He wanted us to know, He would have told us. When He wrote Genesis through Abraham, and other relevant portions of Scripture through other prophets, He knew all about the evolution/creation debate that would occur in our time, so the omission of complete information was intentional. God's desire is that we come to Him in faith -- faith in Him and the fact that every word He has given us is true. The kind of faith that does not require "proof", for then it would not be faith.
As I said, at the time created the universe and all that is in it, God knew all about today's controversy between creation and evolution. He apparently created everything, including man and all the plants and animals, in a mature state with the appearance of age. Adam and Eve obviously were not created as embryos, they were created as fully mature human beings. If we were able to see Adam one second after he was created, we would see a fully mature adult male, with the appearance of age, perhaps in his late teens or early 20's, and all doctors and scientists of today would concur that Adam was at least 18 or 20 years old. The trees and other plants had to be mature enough to produce fruit and be edible so as to sustain Adam and all the animal life, and all botanists and other scientists would conclude that they were at least whatever age it would require to attain that stage of maturity.
From all of this, I can deduce that the entire Universe was created in a fully mature state, and thus it would have the appearance of age, just as Adam and all the trees, plants and animals did.
There are other possibilities, that could interact with the basic facts above, such as the fact that although some things appear to us to be constant, we have nothing to tell us that the constants we observe have always been the same. For instance we know the rates of radioactive decay has been relatively constant for the past hundred years or so, but that does not mean that those rates have always been constant in the past. We know the pace of plate tectonics today, and we assume that that has been relatively constant throughout history, but we do not know that for a certainty.
As long as "science" excludes supernatural intervention by God a priori from any consideration, we will never know the truth of how the universe or life began.
