He negotiated the salary and bonus
with himself. Pretty tough negotiations I bet. I'm sure he held out for a higher bonus package. There was no board of directors to report to at the time.
His salary and bonus is appalling, especially in comparison to other juniors of similar size and production, even in comparison to some mid-size companies. Of course, this is just my opinion others may think that his salary and bonus are perfectly justified.
