The MoA is essentially the same as in DIC caused by sepsis. Inflammation of burned tissue causes the release of tissue factor, which binds with FVIIa. The TF-FVIIa complex activates FX (which is always in circulation) to produce FXa.

FXa is the main pivot point in the coagulation cascade; its production greatly increases the generation of thrombin, which in turn leads to the formation of fibrin clots. When this process happens non-locally, the result is DIC.
