o/t: Increase your soluble/insoluble fiber intake 3-fold. Guaranteed to affect triglycerides, LDL and a positive HDL effect. Use oatmeal and supplements such as generic fiber laxative aka Metamucil generic w/psylium (sp?) husks.
My day starts with a 2-cup bowl of oatmeal with several tablespoons of cinnamon only (for flavor plus what PL1 alluded to; cinnamon is also connected anecdotally with diabetes mitigation.) I do the supplement in the afternoon; orange flavor makes it a welcome drink with low calories. Together, those 2 changes alone add over 20g fiber to my diet in equal proportion of soluble/insoluble fiber. Strive for a daily intake of over 30-40g. Oh, and get some olive oil in your diet.
You have my personal guarantee... if you also exercise.
(Dietary changes and a smallish, 20mg Simvastatin dose have lowered my cholesterol ration from @ 4:1 to 2:1; my triglycerides have dropped some 53%. I really don't need the statin, but 20mg for a 200 lb man ain't gonna hurt.)
