Yup, I had an hour long conference call here, could not watch the market (you guys may rad about it in Forbes, it was a writer composing an article on Invent Resources, Inc. and she took a long time tele-interviewing me... no word about turnips, though <vbg>)

If we can make synthetic diamonds I wonder what the hurdles are to making synthetic oil. You would think its not only doable but @ a marketable price (like $15 / bbl).

Actually, there was (maybe still is) a company claiming they can do a lower cost Fischer -Tropsch process (the Germans used it in WWII and South Africa has a big Coal conversion process company (Sasol) in that field). I think it was Rentech (RNTK and also Syntroleum (SYNM) that one is still around. The problem of these technologies, of course is the relatively big foot print, so it is impossible to locate a plant at a remote well head and convert methane to longer chain paraffins that are transportable in liquid form at ambient temperatures. An SI colleague introduced me and a technology I developed (an Optical Chemical Reactor, in essence optical catalysis covered by US patents #6,043,294 and #6,238,078) which, in principle, should enable the construction of a 3x3x3 meters reactor converting natural gas (methane) the pentane (liquid at ambient temperatures) to ARCO-BP, they have huge reserves of "locked in" natural gas, useless without transportation. In the ensuing discussions, I explained that it may take a good $5 MM (on top of the substantial sums that I have already invested in that failure) just to get a feasibility reactor and I could not give them a better chance than 50% I'll succeed, so, naturally, they lost interest. In my interview with Forbes last week I mentioned that episode in the life of an inventor, maybe they'll write about it, and that will give me an occasion to waste more time with organizations that are not willing to take a 50% bet of $5 MM on a multi billion bucks opportunity.... I made sure to tell the editor about the high risk, since I am not interested in "window shoppers"..... Who knows, maybe something will come out of it.
