Generation and Distribution Equipment From U.S Air Force
ST. LOUIS, March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq: EASI) announces the receipt of orders totaling $72.8 million
from the U.S. Air Force for the supply of electrical distribution equipment
used as part of its Deployable Power Generation and Distribution System
(DPGDS). Two separate orders, awarded to the Company's Radian Inc. (Radian)
subsidiary located in Alexandria, Virginia, for $35.8 million and
$37.1 million, respectively, were received in early March 2004. The current
awards brings the total DPGDS equipment ordered to date under this multi-year
program to $195.4 million for purchases of the deployable systems, which are
operated by both U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army for various Department of
Defense (DoD) missions, according to Jerry Daniels, Vice Chairman and CEO.
Daniels commented, "These recent orders illustrate the rapid customer
acceptance which the DPGDS program received once its full rate production
commenced in 2002. Since its initial fielding two years ago, DPGDS has proved
its worth as a robust and reliable power source in support of both Air Force
and Army fighting forces in remote areas around the globe. Congratulations to
Radian's DPGDS team on the continued success of this program."
Equipment to be supplied under these orders consists of primary and
secondary distribution equipment, operator remote terminals, remote area
lighting systems, cable reel pallets and spares kits. Work on these orders
will begin in March 2004 with deliveries occurring through May 2005.
About DPGDS
The DPGDS is an air transportable electrical power generation and
distribution system that provides electrical power for a variety of military
missions ranging from support of a small military outpost to a fully
operational, forward deployed airbase. The 920-kw DPGDS is a joint U.S. Army
and Air Force program designed as a replacement for existing 750-kilowatt sets
that incorporate outdated technology this is inefficient and requires
excessive maintenance costs. In contrast, the DPGDS power units have high
power density, are 25% lighter and 15% more fuel efficient, and possess
increased reliability and maintainability and can be tailored to a wide
variety of missions.
