Yes. They are 30 - 40% of the US population and they have been voting 80 - 90% republican. They vote in large percentages. Therefore, whomever they back -- wins.

They don't see it as a "mess" because they are most concerned with their own social aganda... Many feel they have been "used" by the current rep establishment, and they will go for the hardline christian conservative, the Bishop Huck... The only candidate right of the current pontiff is Huck. Huck's statements on gays and women considered outrageous will appeal to the majority of evangelicals, on some level -- women are subordinate, gay is sin, etc... They talk "electability"... With the huge evangelical VOTING base, Huck probably is most "electable" imho... Slogging toward theocracy?

the evangelical base and their churches are the new unions... instead of union halls, the new gathering place will be mega churches... the only difference is workers unions voted for what was in their best economic interest... the evangelicals vote for whats in their best spiritual interest and who wil get them closest to armegeddon...

i just finished watching jesus camp. they said in the movie that a new mega church opens every 2 days in america.... the first mall in my hometown, where i used to hang out as a teen ager, has been converted into a mega church... the actual cathedral portion is where penny's used to be... i hear they have restaurants and retail stores as well as baby sitting facilities....the parking lot is full much of the time..
