#28245 RE: dougSF30 #28240

Doug, Re: The specs *are* 1.6 GHz, 256K L2, 3000+. So if you trust the 3000+ rating, what does that imply about the IPC w.r.t. the standard K8 core? Did you put *any* thought into your answer?

AMD has already proven in the past that model numbers mean absolutely nothing. They are 100% PR, and I don't mean "Performance Rating", either. Therefore, I don't see why anyone would make a thoughtful conclusion that Dublin will have higher IPC, just because the rating suggests that it should. Evidently, I put more thought into the response than you did.

Re: Regarding laptops and power dissipation, well the laptop dissipation is what really matters, isn't it? Furthermore, the two products seem to have similar components.

Banias allows vendors to put it inside any kind of laptop, from desktop replacements, all the way down into the subnotebook category. If HP builds a design, they can leverage several different processor cores with the same enclosure, and thus list similar specs. However, as I mentioned before, this is hardly conclusive that Dublin has better power dissipation. Your leap of faith is not based on evidence, it's based on wishful thinking.

Re: You have no idea whether the Dublin core represents an improvement or not, and the specs & PR rating suggest there may well have been a nice IPC boost. If not, I'm glad to see them exposing the P4 Celeron GHz scam.

Is that what you think? If Dublin has the same model number of another mobile AMD processor but performs much worse, then it might actually be successful in exposing that Intel's Celeron has lower IPC?? That is a very interesting perspective, Doug. I'd like to see what the market thinks of your theory, because I suspect that it shall soon be tested.

Re: Regarding Odessa, that's the next 64-bit mobile part, so of course it is higher than a 32-bit only part. As for being the "bottom box", it's the lower of *two* lines in the mobile portion of the roadmap, so that's yet more sophistry from you.

You're free to argue the difference between a roadmap box and a roadmap line, but my point remains the same. Sophistry? No. Just trying to point something out to you, but you won't see it as long as you're holding your eyes closed.
