jrinphx, DIC Entertainment IS A MAJOR! Please read the following;

DIC Entertainment Corporation develops, produces, distributes, markets and merchandises animated content for children and families worldwide. DIC has distinguished itself by building the second largest library of American animation with over 100 different programs in international distribution. DIC's programs are watched by approximately 25 million children each week in the US alone.

DIC's development activities range from creating original characters, such as its flagship property, "Inspector Gadget," to acquiring trend-setting properties from other media, such as "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Super Mario Bros." and then translating them into successful television, video and consumer product phenomenons. DIC maintains a one-stop, full-service organization with dedicated development, production, marketing, merchandising and home entertainment departments.

DIC's programs have consistently garnered critical acclaim and distinguished honors, including the Emmy, Cable Ace, Humanitas and Environmental Media Awards. A prominent and early advocate of responsible and positive-value children's programs, DIC was the first entertainment company to self-regulate with the creation of the DIC Code For Children's Programming. DIC has produced such landmark programs as Emmy Award Winning "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?" and "Captain Planet," which was the first FCC-friendly show for kids ages 6-11 to generate commercial success.

In addition, DIC has remained steadfastly committed to kids' welfare and participates in a variety of community programs, including the Children's Bureau of Los Angeles' Christmas Party. DIC's "Inspector Gadget" is the spokesperson for the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children.

DIC maintains a strong global broadcast presence by working closely with the key broadcast networks, syndicators, major station groups and cable networks throughout the world. DIC also benefits from long-term ties to advertisers, leading film studios, toy companies, software/gaming companies, cereal/packaged goods and fast food chains.

This year, DIC is producing a compelling slate of new programs that range from the 'revolutionary' cartoon "Liberty's Kids" to "Super Duper Sumos," "Evolution" (based on the summer 2001 movie) and the very first animated series based on Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen.

DIC Entertainment was founded in Paris in 1971 and was acquired by Andy Heyward in 1986. DIC was later acquired by ABC/CapCities in 1993 and became a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company in 1995. In November, 2000 Andy Heyward, along with Bain Capital, purchased DIC back from Disney.
