I agree with what you're saying in general. For instance it's entirely inappropriate for the Bush admin to spout democracy while violating at least 1/2 laws in this country.
My problem with Chavey is his nationalization of the private oil companies in his country.
He's essentially rewriting contracts that previously awarded his country 49% of the revenue.
It's easy to be a hero when you have invested no money in the game then want all the profits. Putin has essentially done the same thing.
One can argue that like Osama Bin Laden does that we have raped countries around the globe of their oil resources. After all that is OBL's biggest bitch with us. That we screwed the Saudis out of their oil and now he wants us to ante up.
But one can also argue that the U.S. has contributed trillions to these nations (I pointed it out in a post earlier) and they have in turn not redistributed the wealth amongst the general population.
Here in this country Alaska would be a good example of spreading the wealth.
As an aside our 8 year old son brought home social studies homework today. They are studying the 3 branches of government. In his textbook the executive branch is supposed to see that the laws are obeyed. I explained to him that is true; except for the illegal wiretapping. I'll probably get a call from school tomorrow.
