I wish I could agree with you, and no doubt it's just my foreign policy bias, but have read too many statements by generals within the CCP who are quite calmly discussing nuclear attack on the US.
The fact that so many assume they would never attack leaves us with a large blind spot. We were never this complacent about Soviet Russia
There are influential voices within the Chinese regime who see war with the United States as a necessity in order to realize their vision of a Chinese century.
These men may not represent the points of view of the entire communist party, but they are respected generals, so they shouldn't be discounted, either, imho.
They see it as a game of numbers. They have the demographics to survive repeated hits.
"China could afford to lose as many as 200,000,000 men and would still have more forces in reserve than the US military has in total."
I'm simply watcihng this situation with Taiwan develop and hope that it doesn't escalate...hasn't in the past.
