ICL = implantable contact lens. An ICL is simply an IOL that is used in addition to the eye’s endogenous lens rather than in place of it (as in cataract surgery); however, these terms get blurred in practice (hehe) and are often used interchangeably.
There are two FDA-approved ICL’s: Verisyse from EYE and Visian from STAA. The former is implanted in front of the iris and the latter is implanted behind it, but the clinical outcomes are similar.
