Leo converts its ATryn sales in each country from local currency to dollars using the average exchange rate for a given quarter, and this is done before calculating the royalty payable to GTC. Thus, a declining dollar relative to the British pound and the Euro increase GTC’s dollar-denominated royalties.
ThomasS astutely noted that the dollar has declined substantially relative to the British pound and the Euro in recent years. Although ATryn’s listed selling price in the UK of $22,600 (£11,000) is about 50% higher than the $15K price I had expected, a substantial portion of this difference is attributable to decline of the dollar during the past few years.
