OT -- social comment, NOT political!
Wrong again, Lee! I'm a capitalist all the way. I believe in personal responsibility and that one gets in life basically what one deserves, not necessarily what one wants or needs.
IMO, one can get anything one wants (within realistic limits) by working towards that goal, trying harder when confronted with failure. I believe that is America's strength, what this country stands for. Here we are free to chose our goals, and pursue them, unlike so much of the world where one is taught one's static place in society, and unfortunately often has to channel most of one's energy into survival instead of pursuit of one's dreams. Put in perspective, we are very, very lucky to be Americans.
That said, of course "the poor are always with us", and I think our capitalist structure makes allowances for them. Too bad so many see it as an opportunity to get something for nothing, corrupting the outcome of a well-intended plan.
