re: What makes you think that 45 nm will be any better for AMD?
I'm not sure it will be in performance. But, it does allow you to mfg parts that can be sold that do have positive margins. Beating your head against a brick wall trying to get over 40% of the uP market by winning the low end is the dead end path... Sprinkling higher end parts up to 20% throughout the market that have higher margins seems profitable and, apparently, insurmountable.
