Alan, Thanks for supplying context. However, I don't know if you meant that Intel produces only 100m units per year. As far as PC processors, Intel sells approx 200m units per year (50m or more per quarter). So the R&D $$/unit are approx $30/ea for Intel. (and $50/unit for AMD).

With around 40Mu/year the $2B/year still comes in at $50/unit
AMD sells nearly double this figure at currently, and R&D includes the AtI portion.
But nevertheless, they know they need more volume and have said so. Anything north of 100Mu might be ok to hold the stakes going forward, anything south of this probably not.
