no doubt this is a great deal for AMD's management. They got some idiot to fund a whole quarter's losses. And without ceding any control or board representation.
But the issue for AMD is still whether their process technology will enable their processor design to achieve its potential or not. This is out of my depth entirely, but it looks to me that process-wise, they are on a dead-end path. I don't know how much money it takes to convert to a process that can compete with Intel, but my guess is on the order of 20x the idiot money they scored yesterday.
