This could be bigger than DIC. Ischemia induced apoptosis (cell death) in both stroke and heart attack is thought to cause more damage than the actual O2 deprivation. The apoptosis is known to be mediated by serine proteases. Since AT3 is a serine protease inhibitor I mentioned on this board it could have a role in treatment of stroke and AMI.

I actually contacted a Dr. Howard L. Weiner who is the director of the Research Laboratory Center for Neurolgical Diseases (a research arm of Brigham and Womens Hospital). I talked to Dr. Weiner and E-mailed him my idea at his request. He apparently was not very impressed and I never sent me any follow up.

IMHO I find the pathophysiology very logical, very compelling and very exciting, not just from a stock market point of view but in terms of the number of people which may benefit if this proves as important as it appears.

Also there is little reason to believe the mechinisms in cardiac ischemia are any different.
