chipguy, it is interesting that the slide referenced does not support the 2Q claim:

http://www.tecchannel.de/news/hardware/14533/

Click on the thumbnail and the chart (in English) shows 2004, while the text inserted under the chart claims Xeon „Nocona“: Neben SSE3 und einem 800 MHz FSB erhält der für das zweite Quartal 2004 vorgesehene Xeon-Nachfolger Nocona eine 64-Bit-Erweiterung.

The 2Q (zweite Quartal) does not come from Intel.

I'm not sure if the graphic reproduces here, but I'll try:

Chipguy, Re: Intel "IA32E"

Ahhh... begins to make sense now. Intel64 will be called Intel32 Extended. Pretty clever, and it doesn't subtract from IPF.

Also notice that Compaq seems to be eagerly on board. I wonder if that affects their plans with Opteron.

I can almost hear the crash of a thousand AMD cheerleader broken hearts.

chipguy,

Oh well there goes that HP Opteron socket. Better luck
at Dell.

Shouldn't you be wondering about Itanium socket, since you have (had?) an emotional attachment to it.

Intel doesn't have any 4P 64b Xeons until 2005. (eom)
