Hey I knew I was going to be drafted and chose the Navy, more out of family tradition than a conscious effort to avoid rice patties. I had no clue about that then. Even so my destroyer was within a half mile of the coast that I'm sure the Marines apprieciated or steaming in the wake of a carrier on plane gaurd that I'm sure the pilots apprieciated. Bush might have had a cushy job but it was a job someone had to do. He flew an interceptor for the Air Defense Command. Back then the cold war was concidered real so he did his job!
