Let's be realistic. This isn't all about what we want or what we should do.
I don't think Israeli military strategy focuses on US concerns 10 to 20 years out. Iran CONTINUOUSLY threatens them and they have the capacity to destroy that immediate threat as well as seriously impair the terrorist groups that are trained and sponsored by Tehran.

We don't dictate to Israel how they can respond to the next wave of violence.

I think the attack on NYC enabled those who already wanted to respond to the Islamic Jihad the opportunity to move enough military force into the region to secure our economic interests.

Military force and economic interests rule.
