S2, I agree. Currenly, MRVL only has Wifi chip in Iphone and new version of Ipod. If we count all FY08, it is only tiny 30 million, small portion of MRVL whole year revenue ( See the article below)
connect MRVL revenue to selling chip to AAPL is non-sense
What’s Wrong With Marvell? Posted by Eric Savitz Clearly, someone thinks something has gone wrong at Marvell (MRVL).
One trading source says there are rumors that the company may have lost its position as the supplier of WiFi chips for the Apple (AAPL) iPhone and iPod Touch; that kind of rumor could certainly drive the stock down, although the same source said he was dubious that the story is true. And he notes that the revenue contribution to Marvell from its sale of chips to the iPhone is relatively small. In July, iSuppli said that Marvell was providing the WiFi part at about $6 each. The Street consensus puts revenues for the company’s January 2008 fiscal year at $2.75 billion; if Apple sold 5 million devices over that span, which is a generous guess, you’d be talking $30 million in revenue, which doesn’t really move the needle.
Of course, maybe my source is wrong, and there is something else going on here. Marvell shares have actually been under pressure for some time now; the stock is getting within easy striking distance of its 52-week low of $15.25.
Today, Marvell shares are off 53 cents, or 3.3%, at $15.67.
