#12436 RE: Fletch #12435

Hey Fletch.

>>> the CEO told them they were "going to do very well soon" but didn't give them any real details.

That does not sound very reassuring to me. That's what CEOs are suppose to say. A friend of my worked at Applied Magnetics, and just a few months before it announced it would file chap11, the CEO took everyone out for pizza, said things were getting better, and they were all getting bonuses... in stock.

I have a lot of issues with Covads business model. First off it both competes with telcos, and at the same time depends on their benevolence.

The other issue is WIFI. I can't even get a DSL connection where i live, but if i get on my hands and knees and beg the local telco, i could get a 64k ISDN connection, for some ridiculus installion charge and monthly fee. Or, i could call up the local ISP, grab a USB attena, and have a 1-4megbit connection for $40/mo. And they throw in the attena for free.

If i lived in the city, i could subscribe to service that would not only give me WIFI access at home, but i could sip lattes and bang away at laptop at all the coffee shops that belong to that service. I don't drink coffee, so it would be more like herb tea, but you get the idea.

WIFI is easier to setup, and more portable.

So, that just leaves me wondering who would want DSL, besides the people setting up hotspots. And will the hotspots go with the more reliable T1 connections instead of DSL.
