FWIW, if you have a longer time frame in mind, you can write covered calls to recoup some, if not all of your losses and then some. Particularly if it is a high beta stock, as the options will them have more premium. That's what I did with ZRAN after 3rd Q earnings turned out to be a disaster .... kept writing covered calls from Oct through Feb, until I eventually sold the stock right near where I bought it. Normally, I try not to hold a stock through the earnings report (too risky), but ZRAN was supposed to be longer term investment.
