I notice that as well, and I believe that it's simply a matter of time.

For example, when I arrived in early July, I needed to buy a laser printer. I was dismayed when I checked local stores near the farm here, and found that most laser printers cost 50% more than what I had seen in NY before I left. Prices here were in the neighborhood of $250-$350, and I was sorry I hadn't brought one up with me.

However, by mid August, I was shocked to arrive in Staples in New Minas, prepared to pay higher, and find color laser printers marked down as low as $300, and b&w laser printers for $90. I think Walmart is selling the HP laserjet for $70, and it's even cheaper online.

So, that plunge happened in just a few weeks, and I'm sure it was as a direct result of the strengthening currency. I see similar price action in a number of items.

There are still strange things which are far more expensive in Canada, like paint, for example. Also magazine and books are still priced for the loonie 2004. That will probably just take time to sort out

But the trend is up, imo, and unless something magical occurs in the next few weeks, such as a new Bretton Woods pow-wow to try and reverse or control the dollar's collapse, I don't see a reason to change my forecast.

Sadly, however, I dont think the world is as interested in saving the dollars they were in the 1970's or 1980's. There are far too many other options. The most they will do is try ab ensure that it has an 'orderly' collapse, as opposed to a chaotic plunge.
