FWIW, Butler's account is available online to read. If the original is around, most would prefer that anyway.
I wonder, as I remember reading the World Book Encyclopedia as a youngster, if Butler would included. I wonder what the criteria is for making into any notable collection of history. Definitely, the featured book won't have any solutions.
You said, "so what if a coup...did happen?" Well, it has actually, it's just difficult to prove.
I have read this statement often, "doesn't matter who said what to whom. All that matters is what can be proven in a court of law!" I'm sure that was true at some point in our recent history.
On what to do- there doesn't appear to be many offerings of solutions coming forth. Given the account I read on the mentality and the MO of our president, there is only one way, his way!
On what to do- imagine me calling my local rep. Mr. Cooper. He listens to my heated rant which ends with an exasperated "WHAT CAN I DO!" Forgetting his position (probably cause he's just going through the motions, and doesn't like his job very much anyway), he replies- "call your representative!"
On what else to do- I can continue ranting-it helps me blow off steam. Maybe i should write the White House more often.
I'd say- Dear Mr. President, You ask us, as good citizens, to make sacrifices to help win the war on terror. We have sacrificed.
Today, it's reported that you've requested immunity from criminal charges for the telecommunication companies that aid in domestic surveillance. You'll probably get it as you have all other requests to invade our privacy.
You've asked us to be vigilant and patient. You warned us recently of the potential for a nuclear holocaust. Now, I'm really scared, Mr. President. I can't imagine the horror of my children possibly dying in a nuclear explosion.
Sir, you're continuous remarks on terrorists attacks also have many adolescents scared and confused.
You've received a great deal of support both financially and personally, in your seven years. In return, the citizens, get back news of gross abuse of contract awards, money mission into the trillions of dollars, and continuous references to September 11, and another potential attack.
We, the people who you lead, have not asked a great deal of you. It is right that we should expect accountability and honesty. I recently read an account, written by a reliable source, that you don't know how poor people feel, Mr. President. At least that's ONE honest statement.
I suppose what I'm getting at here sir is that your requests would be more well received if you'd extend the same in return. Instead, you pull more your door more closed. Your secrecy grows more broad as our privacy becomes more open.
Given the current potential of terrorism here in the homeland, I cannot comprehend your policies that fail to address the country's open borders; Mexican trucks, free to enter and drive the roads of the US, without mileage restriction! Trucking traffic is bad enough. Add to that, unsafe trucks with the potential to bring in contraban, It's mind boggling, trying to understand the logic
I'll write again soon. There's much more to say!

Fred, I author what I feel! Being who I am, or rather amounting to who I'm not- an average citizen with no influence, my words don't amount to much but it's great for venting steam.
When Kennedy gave the famous speech to the press, he was, with good intent, attempting to say "warn" the media of the potential for being influenced by corruption. There's an appropriate time for using inflammatory rhetoric. Unfortunately, there aren't enough influentials doing so. If there are, they're being outnumbered by discredit doctors of spin.
The internet is good for research but equally it's bad for offering unreliable resources. Knowing the difference is the challenge. I googled "The most reliable source of historical accounts," and within a few seconds, I had many hits on Amazon and other online book sellers. I did find a site that didn't satisfy my query but is, nontheless, interesting! http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/robinson-sources.html
Okay Fred, that's my off the cuff, unrefined and unedited reply.
