If you can stand a comment from a know-nothing bystander, an item in the current issue of eWeek reported that Dell acknowledged a problem in their servers which caused the server to shut down when a component overheated. They claimed that the problem was corrected.
Don't I recall you buying a Dell server? Is there any possibility that it has a weak, heat-sensitive component? Those dudes can be HARD to find ... but it might account for the flakiness we're seeing.
