It may be interesting to note that the worst two days for iHub of late, have also been the worst two days for Ameritrade/Freetrade.

Don't know of any connection (other than an Ameritrade rep. noticing it too), but seems interesting to note, fwiw.

It all depends on whether you're actively trying to pull up a page after it's crashed and before it's been rebooted.

Very puzzling that it happened twice today and happens sometimes during very low traffic periods. ASP simply shuts down, and there are no symptoms appearing before it happens. It's like if the engine in your car just dies at random times, but runs fine when you re-start it. Until the next random time it dies.

That it happened twice in a relatively short period of time also throws one possible "solution" right out the window. I was considering having the webserver reboot itself every night in the wee hours. Now we know that wouldn't do any good.

We're continuing to work on making sure recordsets are closed and will make a lot more progress on that starting Monday (I'm no longer optimistic that'll be the cure -- we've been making major progress on that, yet the crashes continue). We also will be upgrading to Windows Server 2003 early next week, but I'm not optimistic about that either, since one of the folks who reported the same problem didn't start having the problem until he did that upgrade.

I do hope that, if closing the recordsets doesn't fix it, that IIS6.0, which comes with W2K3, will have a way for me to configure it to restart IIS anytime IIS shuts itself down.
