OTOH it initially shares the same socket so has the
same bandwidth limitations.

The memory controller got a major overhaul though. AMD claims up to 40% bandwidth improvement from:

- Larger buffers (~2-4x)
- Write bursting
- Optimized paging
- New and improved prefetching

And another 10% from independent memory channels (this will cause you to lose the ECC and Chipkill features though).
