ST. LOUIS and HORSHAM, Pa., Jan 14, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via Comtex/ --
Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) and Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT)
Broadband Communications Sector, today announced Charter's selection of the
Motorola Broadband Services Router (BSR) 64000 as a critical component in
Charter's deployment of advanced IP services. The Motorola platform, already
deployed by a number of other North American cable operators, will initially be
leveraged to roll out voice over IP (VoIP) services and high-speed data services
to Charter customers.

"The Motorola BSR 64000 platform was selected for its robust carrier-class
features, including redundancy, DOCSIS(R) 2.0 support, PacketCable(TM) support,
advanced routing capabilities, and overall performance," said Wayne Davis,
senior vice president of engineering and technical operations, Charter.

"Motorola's BSR 64000 provides the redundancy, PacketCable support and DOCSIS
2.0 support that Charter requires for this strategic Voice over IP service
deployment," Davis continued. "In addition to meeting our rigorous and explicit
requirements, the Motorola technology is backed by a company with a history of
building and supporting cable networks."

"As one of the top system operators in the country, Charter understands the need
for 'carrier-class' infrastructure," said Charles Dougherty, Motorola vice
president and general manager, network infrastructure solutions. "The Motorola
BSR 64000, with its advanced architecture, continues to emerge as the platform
of choice among providers who demand reliability, flexibility, and a viable
migration path for DOCSIS 2.0 capabilities. We are thrilled to work with Charter
to help deliver on the promise of multi-service broadband, including the rollout
of VoIP to Charter's customers."
