IBM Chairman wants to move to Linux desktop in 2005
IBM has been strongly advocating Linux servers, but now company Chairman Sam Palmisano has challenged his IT organization to move all of IBM (more than 300,000 employees) to a Linux-based desktop before the end of 2005. Using the eating your own dog food technique, IBM hopes to save a few bucks and convince its customers that desktop Linux is safe for mass consumption. Palmisano's goal, according to IBM's public relations arm, should not be interpreted as a deadline for exodus from the Windows client, but you can bet that he will push hard to make it happen. With Linux and Java firmly in its grasp, IBM is attacking Microsoft's head on. It's a smart strategy as long as the two competitors make sure that interoperability isn't a casualty. --- http://ct.com.com/click?q=5b-5LOwIBKOZTllbm5O72GtyJUczzsR ---
