Because, they can't counterfeit the payment for the shares being bought back. If there is a buy back any shorted shares will have to be replaced with legal shares first. It would look awful funny when people still had the shorted shares in their accounts after the buyback because the company refused to buy back the possibly billions of counterfeit shares. ------------------------------------------------------------ There are no naked shorts in this pitiful stock. But if there were, what conceivable reason would they have to cover?
