#70901 RE: KCMW #70897

KC, I doubt that T-Mobile

means that this deal is available without a cellphone package with them. I would assume that "without contract" means they will sell you a package month-to-month, and with that (or a 1 year or 2 year contract), the sweetener is their VOIP deal. They are not going to compete head to head with Vonage et al.

Still and all, I think T-Mobile is onto something and the other carriers will have to come up with their own VOIP add-on to their cellphone business.

By the way, SunRocket has a better deal than Vonage if you want VOIP. I pay $200/year (approx $17/mo) for unlimited etc and 100 free minutes a month to western Europe. The service by and large is great, sound quality etc. The only downsides I've found is it stifles back and forth conversation a little because (and I don't understand it technically) it seems it only tolerates voice in one direction at a time until the channel is clear, if that makes any sense.

*If you're nice, polite midwesterners, who never interrupt someone else while talking, it's not a problem. For jabbering types from NY, it causes us to slow down :))
